Chennai city is marching towards development process to be in the list of top metros of India. Many infrastructure projects like bridge, level crossing, drainage, flyover, metro rail, road expansion etc. Till now, metro rail construction is going in fast speed from St. Thomas Mount till Koyambedu. Due to this construction, many roads have been blocked and roads are also shortened for the construction. In case of areas like Chrompet, Tambaram, eventhough if construction of bridges and flyovers are taking place, people can make use of the rail service to reach any locality without worrying about the delay in work. People can purchase homes in Chrompet without worrying about anything that’s why no people are filing Amarprakash builders complaints since the projects are located in Chrompet.
Similarly, in Adyar, the most hotspot of the city, Storm Water Drainage project is going on in the Indira Nagar. 3rd avenue, Adyar. Today, though the project has been completed, the completion time consumed more time thus annoying and troubling the local residents. The government initiated this project before 5 months ago of Dec,2012, but till the mentioned date, the work is on the initial process. Till Dec,2012, not much work is finished thus providing difficulty to the residents to walk since half the road and pavements were dug. Traffic jams used to take place at the junctions of 2nd and 3rd avenue. Because of this slow work, motorists and pedestrians are much affected. Slow process over the roadside will always be a hectic problem for the residents of any area. That too in main localities like Adyar, people won’t have rail service to reach the destination, the only hope for them is roadways so there is finding transportation as a difficult task.
On September, 2012, at the junction of 16th cross street, a ditch of 100m was dug to put pipes. For this purpose, the street entrance was closed completely making the residents to take the nearby street to reach their residence. Not only vehicles, people are not even able to walk and reach their home because of road blocking which becomes a hectic issue for people who are in critical medical situations. Over past 3 months, the contractors kept the roads in open stage without bothering about the residents. The situation has also become worst during rainy season since the water got deposited in the ditch which started to stink badly providing way for mosquitoes. The concerned officials are not considering this problem has a huge issue and doesn’t worry about the slow moving of work.
Though people have understood the importance of SWD (storm water drainage), they want it to be completed quickly in a systematic way. This forced the residents to complaint to the authorities about the slow work and asks for the increase in work speed. The Chairman of the Corporation indulged himself into the process and guaranteed people as the project will get over ASAP. As said, the work got over by 2013, March.
